Weddings

Alix just bought her first wedding present for a friend who moved away several years ago. I told her I hoped they stayed married as 18 year olds have a hard time of it. Another of her friends from church and school is getting married on the same weekend, also 18. She replied that some can do it, look at Uncle Gerald and Aunt Sue. I said they are the exceptions! Then I realized of all the weddings I went to of high school friends, NONE are still married to the orginal spouse. Notice that I said "attended". At least one friend is still married but I wasn't able to attend her wedding as I was moving from Kentucky to Michigan because Kent had been called up to go to
Desert Storm. Fortunately the score is bit better for relatives weddings! Only two out of five divorces in the family.

Why so many failures? Part of the reason I think is that people do not realize how hard it is to become real partners with another person. Marriage is hard and it takes a lot of work, but the rewards are worth every effort! So Happy 30th anniversary to Gerald and Sue, may you celebrate your 60th in another 30 years!
