Rambles from SEI

Random ideas and subjects from south east Indiana. We live in a small town located about halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Two teenagers, one each, one about to graduate. Two dogs, two cats, the only males in the house are human.

All we need now is rain.

Kent is always saying that he needs to go on a trip to get some rest. That is how I felt this week, Thank God he went on a trip last night, so I can take a day off! God has smiled on us this last week. We worked outside everyday, getting necessary chores done. He left last night and it is suppose to rain for the next few days. We actually do need some rain so it is a good thing.

One of the chores was getting the garden in. Often we are in "panic planting" mode. Trying to rush it in, in between monsoonal rain or a trip. The ground has to be dry enough for him to till and many times when he is home it has just poured. For the last 7 years it was critical that the corn be planted by a certain date. But since we aren't doing a corn roast this year it didn't matter.

Yesterday a Pilated woodpecker was hammering away at the stump in our front yard. If you haven't seen one of those you wouldn't believe how big they are! I think Woody the Woodpecker must have been based on them. It did a good job of tearing up that stump.

We will have two varieties of corn, one that takes 75 days to mature and the other that takes 90. At least that is the theory. Usually the late corn is ready before the early is all gone. If you could visit we would have our own private corn roast!
